How Vivitrol Can Treat Alcoholism

Learn how Vivitrol can Treat Alcoholism

At Pinnacle Rehabilitation Group we not only offer treatment programs that can help someone overcome their opiate dependence.

We also offer a treatment program for those who are struggling with alcoholism and willing to seek treatment.

What Is Medication-Assisted Treatment?

Medication-Assisted Treatment or M.A.T for short is the use of medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a “whole-patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. MAT can help sustain recovery. (SAMHSA) M.A.T uses medicine like naltrexone (Vivitrol)buprenorphine (Suboxone) or methadone to curb an addict’s craving for the opiate they are dependent on.

How Vivitrol can Treat Alcoholism

At Pinnacle Wellness Group, we use the method of Medication-Assisted Treatment to treat those who are alcohol dependent. Naltrexone (Vivitrol) blocks the euphoric effects and feelings of intoxication. This allows people with alcohol addiction to stop or reduce their drinking behaviors enough to remain motivated to stay in treatment and avoid relapses. Vivitrol is our drug of choice because it works to minimize cravings for alcohol. When administered in addition to therapy, Vivitrol has proven to result in a higher recovery rate and lower an alcoholics chance of relapsing.

Things To Know about how Vivitrol can treat alcoholism:

  • Vivitrol treats alcohol dependency
  • You should not drink while on Vivitrol
  • You should detox from alcohol before starting treatment
  • Administered 1x a month
  • Requires patient to enroll in a treatment program to receive counseling
  • Not a narcotic and you cannot become addicted to it.

If you know anyone who is struggling with alcoholism and is ready to enter into an outpatient rehab treatment facility, Pinnacle Wellness Group is here to help. We provide a state-of-the-art treatment program, along with counseling and a weekly Medication Assisted Recovery Meeting. For more information, give us a call at our office today at (772) 222-5411.
